Individual and team fundraising events and challenges form a key part of raising funds and the profile of the Brigade.

Whether it be your own challenge or taking part in the Great North Run, we rely on events like these to raise the vital funds we need to keep operational and ensure our Watch House Museum can remain open and receive the care and maintenance it needs.

You may have your own ideas, but some recent events that members of the public and our team members have completed include:

  • The Great North Run, London Marathon & Manchester Marathon
  • 4x4x48 Challenge – running 4 miles every 4 hours for 48 hours
  • King Eddies Stairs Challenge – a relay run at King Edward’s Bay incorporating the notorious middle stairs
  • Dry January
  • 1864 Challenge – where our members set out to walk/run a combined total of 1,864 miles during a single month (and ended up doing over 2,000 miles and shedding a few pounds too!)
  • Raffles and tombolas at work or in the local community
  • Street collections – these require a licence to take place so please speak to us if you would like to support or organise a collection
  • Snookerathon – making use of the Snooker table in our Watch House museum and playing continuously for 24 hours
  • The Great Brigade Potato Growing Competition – challenge yourself to grow the 3 biggest potatoes you can and pit yourself against the Brigade’s Potato-growing champion – this annual event starts in spring with a weigh-in held during early October
